The original Dodge Challenger was a late arriving addition to the muscle car world. Debuting in 1970 the Dodge Challenger took the auto industry by storm. Along with it's sister car the Plymouth Barracuda the Dodge Challenger combined the perfect mix of gorgeous style and brute horse power. Some Challenger models were produced with a smaller slant 6 or a 318 cubic inch V8. However the Challenger is most known for its ground pounding 426 cubic inch hemi V8. An even larger 440 cubic inch non-hemi V8 was also under the hood in some models.

The great thing about the original Dodge Challenger was the interesting color variations you could order direct from the factory: Plum Crazy, Sublime, Go-Mango, Hemi Orange, Banana, Rallye Red, Panther Pink, highlighted the options.

The Dodge Challenger had a rebirth in 1978 which was a sad attempt at rejuvenating the car but in 2009 Dodge re-released the Challenger in a retro design that is very popular. Yet for us muscle car enthusiasts the first generation Dodge Challenger will always be the true Dodge Challenger and one of the greatest muscle cars ever produced.
